Tata Motors is facing stiff competition from the newly launched SUV from Mahindra and Mahindra, the Mahindra XUV500 in the Tata Aria’s feature segment. With a lower priced product with better features, Mahindra has created more troubles for already troubled Aria sales. To offer better value for the product, Tata will soon offer an automatic transmission variant of the Tata Aria to offer a better overall package to the customers who are looking for a more comfortable driving vehicle with the benefits of an automatic gearbox.
Tata is jointly developing its first Automatic transmission gearbox with JLR’s team and the automatic variant is probably already under testing. Its is expected to launch soon in India. There is no official timeline, but we expect that it should hit Indian roads before the first half of 2012.
