Reports suggest that Tata Altroz will actually get the 1.2 Litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine from the Nexon.
Tata Altroz currently gets a 1.2 Litre petrol and a 1.5 Litre diesel engine, from Tiago and Nexon, respectively. After this, the hatch will reportedly also get a more powerful turbo-petrol engine. Nexon’s 1.2 Litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine will make its way on Altroz as well, however generating lower power figures.
Tata Altroz Turbo will produce 102 BHP and 141 Nm of peak torque. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 7-speed DCT. There are chances that it could be offered with both these gearboxes. The regular petrol engine produces 86 BHP and 113 Nm of peak torque. The diesel engine lets out 90 BHP and 200 Nm of peak torque.

Once the Altroz Turbo is launched, it will be the second most powerful hatchback in India. The first place is obviously taken up by Volkswagen Polo with its new 1.0 Litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol TSI unit. Polo produces 110 PS and 175 Nm of peak torque. While the BS4 1.2 Litre turbo-petrol engine was bigger in capacity, but the new engine is more powerful and fuel efficient.
Most likely, Altroz Turbo will not get any other mechanical changes. The suspension setup, braking and steering will be the same when compared to the regular one. Although, there will be cosmetic changes including different colour options, new alloy wheels, sportier tweaks to the bumpers and addition of a rear spoiler.
Inside the cabin, there could be an all-black theme with red-inserts over the dashboard, AC vents and seat upholstery. The features will remain the same as earlier. The addition of Tata Altroz Turbo will benefit the company because the hatch is already well appreciated in the market.

Soon, even Hyundai will be launching the new generation i20 with a 1.0 litre turbo engine. Unlike Venue, the new i20 will be limited to 100 BHP and 172 Nm of peak torque. The Grand i10 Nios was recently launched with the same engine, which is now the second most powerful hatch.
