- Tata Altroz Racer Edition will rival the Hyundai i20 N-Line in the hot-hatch segment in our market.
- It will come with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine with 118 hp and 170 Nm.
- This will offer the customers the only 5-star rated hot-hatch in the country.
The Hyundai i20 N-Line rival from Tata Motors will be called the Altroz Racer Edition. In essence, it will be an even more powerful version of the Altroz’s existing i-Turbo variant. Altroz holds the distinction of being the only 5-star safety-rated hatchback in India. That is the reason why it is pulling tons of customers away from the likes of the Hyundai i20 lately. Now, the only edge of the sportiest version of the i20 that Hyundai has is about to get snatched away from it. Tata will unveil the Altroz Racer Edition at the ongoing Auto Expo 2023 in some time.

The most prominent aspect of this new edition variant will be what’s there under the hood. While the 1.2-litre NA petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines will continue unchanged, the 1.2-litre turbo petrol will get replaced by this more powerful unit. Reports online suggest that this engine will be capable of producing a cool 118 hp and 170 Nm of peak power and torque. This is at par with what the Hyundai i20 N-Line offers (118 hp and 172 Nm).

The catch will be that Tata might offer a 6-speed manual transmission with this variant. This could be the game-changer because such variants are designed only for performance enthusiasts and they love nothing more than a manual gearbox. The i20 N-Line misses out on this trick as it comes only with an iMT and a DCT transmission. Additionally, the Altroz Racer Edition could also offer a DCT gearbox which is a sporty transmission offering ease and convenience for the owners.

While the powertrain will be changed significantly, we expect it to have some other mechanical enhancements as well. This could include a more sporty steering wheel and re-tuned suspension to balance the added performance. However, the exact details will be out in a couple of hours when Tata showcases it at the Auto Expo 2023. What are your thoughts on this?
