The Tata Altroz Racer edition finally makes an appearance in the flesh. The performance version of the Altroz was being tested for a long time now. Having announced it over a year ago, Tata Motors took a lot of time to bring it to the showrooms. But now that it is finally here, it will lock horns with the mighty popular Hyundai i20 N Line. These cars are for buyers who love to drive enthusiastically without having to spend a whole lot on hardcore hot hatches. In fairness, in India, there are no options of real hot hatches anyway. Hence, we have to make do with slightly tweaked iterations of regular premium hatchbacks like the Altroz and i20.
Tata Altroz Racer Walkaround Video
This video stems from the Automobile With Bruce channel on YouTube. The visuals capture the red/orange-coloured Altroz Racer at a stockyard. It gets dual-tone black body graphics which accentuate its sportiness. There are no design changes in comparison to the regular Altroz. But there are additional badges which indicate the special edition model. I particularly like the dual-tone effect which continues till the bonnet. The black alloy wheels, black ORVMs and black C-pillars further elevate the sportiness. Overall, people will be able to distinguish the Racer Edition from the regular model quite easily.
On the inside, there are a bit of amenities which highlight its sporty nature. These include orange inserts at various places in the cabin like the central console, around AC vents, on the dashboard, the seats and stitching. Interestingly, there is an Altroz badging underneath the infotainment display. That is a nice touch which we don’t often see on cars. The top highlights from inside the cabin of the Altroz Racer are:
- 7-inch TFT Digital Instrument Cluster
- 10.25-inch Digital Touchscreen Infotainment Display
- Voice-Activated Electric Sunroof
- Wireless Charging
- Ventilated Seats
- 360-degree Camera
- 6 Airbags
Specs
The Tata Altroz Racer will deploy the same powertrain as the regular Altroz. This means that we will see the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine which is good for 120 PS and 170 Nm of peak power and torque. This engine could pair with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT gearbox. We will have to wait to know if there are slight tweaks to the mechanicals like the steering wheel, suspension setup, brakes, etc. Also, the prices of the regular Altroz range from Rs 6.65 lakh to Rs 10.80 lakh, ex-showroom. We expect the Altroz Racer to bear a slight premium over these.
