Tata Altroz, the Maruti Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20 rival, is going to launch in India with three engine options i.e. two petrol and one diesel unit.
Tata Altroz, the 45X concept based premium hatchback, set to arrive in the Indian market later this year, was recently previewed by the homegrown automaker at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show. The show-car is quite close to what we are going to see making its way to India during the second half of 2019. In terms of its exterior design, the Altroz resembles the 45X concept to quite an extent.
According to a recent report published in Autocar India, the Tata Altroz is going to launch in India with a total of three engines in its line-up. These will include two petrol and one diesel engine option. The base petrol derivative is going to offer the Tiago’s 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder engine. This unit is capable of churning out 84 BHP along with 99 Nm of peak torque.

Higher-spec petrol variants are going to offer a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, turbocharged unit seen on the Nexon. However, the power figures will be slightly altered. In the Altroz, this Revotron engine will be made to produce 102 BHP of power along with 140 Nm of peak torque. In contrast, in the Nexon, this engine is good for 110 BHP of power along with 170 Nm of peak torque.
The use of the un-turbocharged engine and reduction in power for the turbocharged one is not going to affect the performance figure of the Altroz. This is because the kerb weight of this premium hatchback is 15Kg lighter than the Tigao and a massive 200Kg lighter than the Nexon. The diesel derivative is going to be the same 1.5-litre unit seen on the Nexon. This engine is likely to feature a reduction in power figures as well.
