The 5-star safety rated premium hatchback is all set to get a new automatic model. The Tata Altroz DCA (Dual Clutch Automatic) is expected to be launched in March 2023 (bookings are open online or at the dealership at Rs 21,000). It is being set up as the rival of the Hyundai i20 Automatic. As per new reports, the upcoming model will sport a bigger 8/9-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Let’s take a closer look!

The Tata Altroz DCA is essentially an automatic version of the Altroz premium hatchback. A DCT or a dual-clutch gearbox is a better gearbox than the AMT auto, torque convertor automatic or a CVT automatic. Additionally, the top-end model is said to come with a bigger 8 / 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system (instead of a 7-inch touchscreen available in the current Altroz). The Altroz DCT auto will also come with premium features climate control and connected car tech.
The premium hatchbacks with automatics have become very popular in the Indian market, especially for city driving. The Tata Altroz DCA will be the first model with a DCT automatic gearbox in the Tata Motors range. It is likely to be priced at about Rs 75,000 – 1 lakh more than the 1.2l turbo petrol Altroz XZ+ trim. The upcoming car will be powered by a naturally aspirated 1.2-litre petrol engine that produces 86bhp / 113 Nm of torque. It will also be around 20 kg heavier than the manual Altroz. However, fuel efficiency is expected to be lower than the manual.

Currently, the Tata Altroz comes with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine (that offers 86 PS and 113 Nm of peak power and peak torque, respectively), a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine (that outputs 110 PS and 140 Nm), and a 1.5-litre diesel engine (that produces 90 PS and 200 Nm). For transmission, the company offers options of a 5-speed manual gearbox or a newly launched DCT automatic (depending on the variant). The Tata Altroz comes with a price tag of Rs 5.99 lakh to Rs 9.69 lakh (ex-showroom). It competes with the likes of Hyundai i20, VW Polo, and all-new Maruti Baleno.
