The Tata 45X hatchback is going to make its first public debut at the upcoming Geneva Motor Show in March along with its all-electric concept.
At the upcoming Geneva Motors Show, Tata Motors is going to debut the production-ready version of its all-new premium hatchback. The said vehicle is based on the 45X concept which we all saw at the 2018 Auto Expo. So far there has been no concrete information regarding this vehicle’s engine specifications or what transmission options the same is going to come with. However, according to a member on Team-BHP (and automotive forum), the 45X might come with a mild-hybrid system.
The leaked information suggests that the Tata 45X based premium hatchback is going to come with petrol as well as diesel engine options. The petrol derivative is the one which will get a mild-hybrid system. It will include an integrated starter generator and idle Stop-Start system. The system will be like the Micro-Hybrid system that we see on some of the Maruti Suzuki cars.

The diesel derivative of the Tata 45X based hatchback is not going to get this mild-hybrid system. Though not confirmed, we expect Tata Motors to plonk in the Tiago’s 1.2-litre , 82 BHP petrol engine in this new offering. While it is going to chose the Nexon’s 1.5-litre, turbo oil-burner for the diesel counter part. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual for the petrol and a 6-speed manual for the diesel as standard.
There are chances of an automatic gearbox making its way to the 45X’s portfolio. Since the competition either offers CVTs or dual-clutch torque converter units, expect this car to offer a similar unit. However, there have been speculations that the automatic transmission option could be an AMT gearbox as well.
