As per their latest stats, as many as 24,000 cars were stolen in SA in 2021 and this number rose to 25,000 in 2022. These are terrifying numbers as the host recalls his two colleagues also having to go through this situation. The most common cars that are stolen include the VW Polo, Toyota Fortuner/Hilux, Nissan Patrol and Ford Ranger. The miscreants are able to use the engines, sell spare parts and sell the cars in foreign markets to make some money.

The presenters highlight the need for the Police department and authorities to focus on the entire syndicate as opposed to the people who are stealing cars. The demand for stolen cars is present because influential people make a lot of money from them by selling them in foreign markets. Hence, it makes sense to go after these people and not necessarily the people who are just being paid a small amount to steal a car. That will end this problem as there will be no demand to steal cars in the first place.
