Do you know that many cars, other than Fiat cars as well, worldwide use the Multi-jet engines by Fiat. The fiat 1.3 Litre multijet engines are very fuel efficient as well as good in performance with little troubles. The reliability is quite evident from the fact that all the Diesel engines used in Maruti Swift Diesel, Maruti Swift Dzire Diesel, Maruti SX4 Diesel, Tata Indica Vista etc. are from Fiat only. In a recent development, Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan has signed an agreement with Fiat as per which Fiat will now provide 1.6 Litre CRDI Diesel Multi-jet II engines to Suzuki. As of now, Fiat provides 1.3 and 2.0 Litre Multi-jet engines to Suzuki.
Suzuki will utilize this engine in its range of cars globally. As of now, Suzuki is using primarily the 1.3 Diesel Litre engines in most of its small cars and 2.0 Litre engines in the larger cars in some countries. With increasing awareness towards environment and rising fuel prices, Suzuki needs a middle path to power its upcoming cars in the coming years in which the 1.6 Litre engine will be utilized.
There is no clue of 1.6 Diesel of coming to Indian cars of Maruti Suzuki, but a future possibility can not be ruled out. Maybe some next generation of SX4 Sedan or the upcoming MPVs like Maruti R3 may feature a more powerful 1.6 Litre engine.
