Paparazzi has spotted the Suzuki Swift Sport at IGI Airport, bringing the rumours of it coming to India again. Can it be a replacement for Abarth Punto?
Again. After being spotted last in 2017, the Suzuki Swift Sport makes a spy comeback in India again. It has now been spied towards the customs terminal of IGI international airport, Delhi. Are we getting it finally or is it just here for testing purpose?
Suzuki Swift Sport is the performance-focused version of the current Swift that we have in India. This is just like the regular Polo and GTi. Sport is sold in many European countries and is known as a sleeper. This one is completely different in terms of driving from the Swift that we have in our market.
Cosmetic differences include Swift Sport getting sportier alloy wheels, different front grille, a subtle body kit, disc brakes on all four wheels and twin tip exhaust mufflers. You might mistake it for a three-door car but just like our Swift, it gets the door handles on the C-Pillar.

Under the hood, you have a 1.4 Litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol Boosterjet engine. The engine produces 140 BHP at 5,500 RPM and 230 Nm at 2500 RPM of peak torque. It is a FWD car and comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as standard.
The hot hatch can crack 0-100 km/hr in just 8 seconds flat. The top-speed is electronically limited to 210 km/hr. Earlier, there were rumours of it coming to India but getting Baleno RS’s 1.0 Litre three-cylinder Boosterjet turbo petrol engine. We know that went downhill.
If and if Maruti plans to bring it to the Indian market, it could be a possible replacement for Fiat Abarth Punto. The engine capacity is same and power figures are also similar. Suzuki Swift Sport might come as a complete CBU model and be priced in the 15 Lakhs range. In the UK, the Sport is sold in two variants, priced at Rs 14 Lakhs and 15 Lakhs.

However, all these are just rumours again. There is a possibility that it could just be in India for component testing and that’s it. Swift Sport could be a more affordable option than the Volkswagen Polo GTI and Mini Cooper S.
