Earlier, we had reported that Swift Sport and Suzuki Jimny India launch would happen soon. However, both the cars are not coming to India anytime soon as per reports. The Jimny is an off-roader whereas Swift Sport is a hot hatchback. Read ahead to get the reason.
From some time back, we have reported that Maruti Suzuki Swift Sport and Suzuki Jimny India launch would happen in India by 2019. Both the cars have been launched this year itself. The Swift Sport is basically an ‘RS’ version of the Swift hatchback. Hot hatchbacks are still not popular in India, as we have only a couple of them. They include the Polo GT, Baleno RS, and Abarth Punto, which are not selling great numbers. On the other hand, Jimny is a mini-off roader. Currently, off-roaders are considered lifestyle vehicles. Lifestyle vehicles refer to such cars that people would think of buying after their first primary car. Gypsy is such an old player but still does not sell that well. Coming back to the topic, the Swift Sport and Suzuki Jimny India launch is not going to happen in the Indian markets.

The Jimny was expected to launch by the second half of 2019. Other speculations said that the Jimny would be the new Gypsy, that will come to India. However, all these speculations are wrong. Recently, Zigwheels reported that Maruti Suzuki has confirmed Suzuki Swift Sport and Suzuki Jimny India launch will not happen anytime soon. These two cars were really admired by many people in India, but for them, it will still be a dream.

The Jimny currently retails starting from around Rs 10 Lakhs in the JDM. If with this hefty price tag, it had come to India, the demand would be limited. The Jimny would then fit in for the second or third car of a family. The mini-SUV is an off-roader with 3-door and 5-door options with a small engine and some premium features.

On the other hand, the Suzuki Swift Sport would easily cost around Rs 7.5 Lakhs and upwards, as the Swift ends near to that price. It would carry the 1.4 Litre Boosterjet Turbo engine, which would easily make it more expensive. At this hefty price tag, people would rather opt for bigger hatchbacks like Baleno and Elite i20.
The concept of hot hatchbacks and lifestyle vehicles have still not evolved in India. As a result of which, many such vehicles are not successful. Hot hatchbacks include Polo GT, Baleno RS, and Fiat Punto Abarth. The lifestyle vehicles include Mahindra Thar, Maruti Gypsy, and Force Gurkha. All these cars and SUVs are not in great demand.
