While the Maruti Ignis comes in a FWD format, the international-spec model gets AWD system in select markets
Designed to appeal to a younger, working demographic, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis boasts a unique and unconventional design. This has led to some mixed reactions ever since its 2016 launch through the NEXA retail chain. The Ignis draws inspiration from Suzuki’s past products, featuring subtle nods like the three slashes on the C-pillar as a tribute to the Suzuki Fronte Coupe from the ’70s. This quirky hatchback has also become a favorite among car modifiers, benefiting from the availability of a wide range of aftermarket parts. With its higher ride height, the Ignis even exudes a hint of SUV-like aesthetics. Recently, we found a video showcasing the Ignis confidently crossing an icy river in Romania.

Suzuki Ignis Displays Decent Water-Wading Capability
The Suzuki Ignis in action can be viewed in a video posted by tiny adventures on YouTube. This hatchback tackles a small but potentially tricky Bicazel river in Neamt, Romania. Despite its deceptively modest size, the river’s depth and sub-zero temperatures could pose challenges. Snow blankets the Ignis’s wheel arches as it braves the elements. Thanks to its elevated ride heigh, the Ignis displays commendable water-wading capabilities. In the video, the Ignis confidently fords the river, maintaining a steady pace and easily reaching the opposite bank without any complications.
What’s noteworthy here is that even though the India-spec Maruti Suzuki Ignis has a FWD layout, the small car is available with AWD in select markets. In 2020, the Ignis underwent a mid-life refresh. It was even updated to comply with BS-VI emission standards. This update introduced visual enhancements like a redesigned front grille, bumper, and fog lamp housings. Maruti expanded the color palette with two new options, and the interior received a modern 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
