Ssangyong Tivoli Will Not be Launched in India

Over the past few years, there have been quite a lot of reports suggesting Mahindra & Mahindra owned Korean car maker, Ssangyong, is readying the Tivoli small SUV for the Indian market. However, that is not the case. Instead of the Tivoli, Mahindra will launch a new SUV based on the Tivoli’s platform known by its internal codename, S201. You can read more about it HERE. This upcoming Mahindra SUV will fall in the sub-15 lac price bracket and will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and the Maruti S-Cross.

Ssangyong Tivoli India Launch Date

The small SUV was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo in February. The Tivoli was recently caught testing in Ahmedabad. This isn’t the first time that a camouflaged test mules of the Tivoli have been spotted. Although Mahindra put the Tivoli on display at the Auto Expo, no details regarding Ssangyong Tivoli India Launch details were provided. We expect the Tivoli to arrive in showrooms in the second quarter of next year.

Ssangyong Tivoli Price in India

In international markets, the Ssangyong Tivoli is positioned as a premium offering in the small SUV segment retailing for around INR 13-15 lacs. Keeping in mind the fact that the Creta’s and the Duster’s top-spec trims retail for around INR 13 -14 lacs, such pricing may not go down well with the India customers. Prices of the Ssangyong Tivoli are expected to start at around INR 12 lacs for the base petrol.

Ssangyong Tivoli India – Specifications

Powering the Tivoli will be a set of 1.6-litre petrol and diesel motors, which belong to the same family as the 1.2-litre engines that power the KUV100. The 1597 cc petrol engine boasts of a peak power rating of 128 PS and max. torque of 160 Nm, while the diesel puts out 115 PS of peak power and 300 Nm of peak torque. Ssangyong will offer a choice of 6-speed manual or 6-speed Automatic transmission with both engines. The 4×4 variant might be given a miss for India seeing as major rivals such as the Hyundai Creta and Maruti S-Cross do not get an optional 4WD.
