Skoda Rapid is all set to undergo a makeover and will be marketed as a special edition. The Czech car maker has been working on this design for some time now and with the spy-shots captured recently we can expect a release soon. The car will be christened as the Skoda Rapid Black Edition. The Black Edition could mark the end of the current Rapid with the updated Rapid waiting in the wings. The facelifted Rapid is expected to get more angular styling along with the company’s new signature grille and headlamp design as seen on the all-new Skoda Octavia and the recently updated Superb sedan.
From the image, it looks like the car will receive cosmetic upgrades like black headlights; black Skoda grille and 16-inch ‘Comet’ alloy wheels. Although the interior of the car is not visible in the picture, report suggests that the Skoda new Rapid edition will house touchscreen audio system and special black accents. Mechanically it is likely to come with the new 104 BHP 1.5-litre diesel engine shared with VW. Don’t be too surprised to find a DSG automatic gearbox and paddle shifters in there as well.
Earlier in March 2014, Skoda Auto launched Rapid Ultima special edition, offered in both petrol and diesel variants. The petrol version of the car comes with 1.6-litre petrol engine, which can churn out a power of 105PS and a peak torque of 153Nm. The diesel variant also packs the same capacity motor that can generate 250Nm of peak torque. It comes with parking sensors with a rear view camera, Garmin and Tom Tom navigation devices, projector headlamps, multi-functional steering wheel, audio player with Aux-in & USB input and new spoke alloy wheels.
