In this post, a South African expert reviews the Made-in-India Suzuki Jimny. It’s worth noting that the South African market receives a plethora of products from India. Until now, both the South African market and other international markets only had access to the 3-door version of the Jimny. Interestingly, this marks the first instance in the history of the lightweight off-roader where a 5-door iteration is available. The decision to launch the 5-door variant stems from a focus on practicality, addressing a limitation of the 3-door version. With an increasing emphasis on affordability, consumers prefer investing in practical cars, and this new Jimny aligns with that intention.

South African Media Reviews Made-In-India Jimny
This post comes from IGNITION on YouTube. The host has the Jimny for a review across the highway and some off-road trails. Initially, she takes the lightweight off-roader on the highway. Unfortunately, she struggles to squeeze out a solid performance. The engine is just not designed to rev too hard and reach very high speeds. However, as soon as she puts the Jimny into its natural habitat, the 5-door SUV comes into its own. She takes it through hardcore terrain and water crossing. The Jimny happily complies and makes use of its off-roading hardware and high ground clearance to ensure that the owner gets across any obstacle.

Interior and Features
The reviewer tests the interior space on offer as well. She doesn’t like the fact that there are not enough storage spaces inside the cabin. Apart from that, it gets the latest tech features including a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment display, automatic climate control, rearview camera with sensors, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 6 Airbags, a sturdy interior, 211 litres of boot space which is the biggest advantage over the 3-door version, spacious legroom, etc. All in all, the Jimny has a modern interior and layout with practical space.

Specs
The Suzuki Jimny comes with a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine that produces a respectable 75 kW (103 hp) and 130 Nm of peak power and torque. This engine pairs with either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter automatic transmission. Power is distributed to all four wheels through Suzuki’s renowned ALLGRIP PRO 4×4 system, which includes a low-range transfer case and locking differential. The vehicle boasts a ground clearance of 210 mm and impressive approach, break-over, and departure angles of 36°, 24°, and 50°, respectively. The prices range between R430,000 and R480,000. Hence, this 5-door Jimny is an attractive product for what it offers in terms of off-roading capabilities.
