In a story that seems straight out of the fairy land, a son has recovered his father’s 1971 Royal Enfield Bullet stolen 25 years ago
N Srinivasan, a retired financial institutional officer, was in for a major surprise as his son reunited him with his beloved Royal Enfield Bullet which was stolen 25 years ago. This was made possible only by his son’s efforts of 15 years.

The said Royal Enfield Bullet was purchased in 1971 and was stolen back in 1996. Srinivasan’s son, who’s a software engineer, just had a black & white photograph of the motorcycle take in 1972 along with some faint memories. In spite of the limitation, he set out to find his dad’s missing motorcycle back in mid-2006. Speaking about this, Arun Srinivasan, who’s now 38, said,“Working with Syndicate Bank as an agricultural officer dealing with loans for farmers, my father bought the motorcycle in 1971 when he was posted in Hassan town. He rode it extensively to villages in the district on work. There is just one photograph of my father and his friend next to the motorcycle and I could vaguely see the registration plate reading MYH 1731.”
In search of the motorcycle, Arun reached out to his dad’s friend in Manipal, from whose possession the motorcycle was stolen back in 1996. He then kept asking about the motorcycle at garages at several parts of Karnataka his father used to go to. He even contacted his father’s earlier colleagues and brokers at many RTOs to find the motorcycle. Not just this, he even used social media to try and track the old motorcycle. However, good luck came through as the nationwide transport divisions switched to digitalization and Arun could find some relevant data on government’s Parivahan Sewa website.“In early 2021, I began searching with the registration details of my dad’s motorcycle and much to my delight, 15 years of efforts paid off when I spotted an insurance policy registered under a Royal Enfield Bullet still carrying the registration number MYH 1731.” he said.

Finally, he found the details of a farmer in a village of Mysuru who seemed to have the motorcycle. On being contacted, the farmer was surprised to know the story of the motorcycle as he had purchased the 1971 Royal Enfield Bullet from a dealer who had purchased the bike in a police auction of stole/abandoned vehicles. The farmer finally agreed to sell the motorcycle to Arun. On being handed over the motorcycle, N Srinivasan couldn’t contain his tears and exclaimed, “It is a great feeling to reunite with my old horse after more than 25 years. All thanks to my son.”
