Skoda is planning a compact SUV (mini Kushaq) and it has been spied driving next to a Tata Punch. The spy media has been able to spot the upcoming SUV from the Czech carmaker soon after Skoda announced it. In fact, there is an ongoing contest where you can suggest a name for this SUV. Based on the nomenclature Skoda adopts, it has to begin with the letter ‘K’ and end with the letter ‘Q’. There are already over 1,30,000 entries and 15 names have been shortlisted. To incentivize the participants the winner of the contest will get the SUV and a few others will get a chance to visit the Skoda Museum in Czech Republic. For now, let us take a look at the details of the compact SUV.
Skoda’s Mini Kushaq Spied Next to Tata Punch
This video comes from The Fat Biker on YouTube. It captures the compact SUV wrapped in a thick camouflage. Still, we are able to deduce a few design aspects via this video clip. For instance, at the front, it bears a butch appearance with a prominent grille, much similar to the Kushaq. Apart from that, there are LED DRLs and headlamps on the bonnet. It even carries the upright bonnet for a sporty stance. At the sides, there are 16-inch steel rims which indicate that this might be a lower variant of the SUV. It still gets the handy roof rails, LED taillamps and a roof-mounted spoiler. It certainly carries the SUV-ish traits.
In recent times, the lines between the sub-4m segment of SUVs have blurred. Almost all SUVs under 4m look almost similar in dimensions and demeanour. Sure, there are differences, but they are very subtle. That explains why, in this case, when this SUV comes adjacent to the Tata Punch, there is not a huge difference in the road presence. In fact, in the heavy traffic, it even passes the Hyundai Creta. In all honesty, there is barely any apparent difference. We shall keep an eye out for more details as and when they appear.
Author’s Note
Skoda is making plans to expand its footprint in the Indian automobile market. Its last two products – Kushaq and Slavia, have been quite popular. In fact, they have made Skoda a prominent carmaker in India leading to its highest monthly sales a few months ago. Going forward, it wants to cater to an even wider range of potential car buyers. Hence, a smaller SUV than the Kushaq will help it achieve just that. Skoda just needs to play the affordability and features balancing game well to woo the customers. We know that it will offer the peppy 1.0-litre TSI turbo petrol engine which will offer spirited performance. If the price and features list makes sense, it might have a winner on its hands.
