Skoda Yeti Specifications
The heart of Skoda Yeti is a 2.0 Liter Diesel Engine. The TDI (Turbo Direct Injection, CRDI Engine) is mighty 140 BHP engine with 320Nm between 1750 to 2500 torque which is pretty muscular. Its a permanent 4 Wheel drive which is a must for a good off-roading SUV. Besides having a powerful engine, the overall fuel economy rating is impressive 16.7 KM/Liter of diesel, which is equivalent to a CO2 emission of 159g/km. It has a permanent 4 Wheel drive with 6 Speed manual transmission.
The suspension is designed to be robust as well as comforting. Skoda Yeti has a strong McPherson Strut suspension with Wishbones. The multi-link rear axle has a torsion stabilizer which helps in sharp turns with more safety. It has 17 inches diameter wheels for a strong grip and off-roading comfort. Its fuel tank capacity is 60 Liters which means you can go around 1000 KM with full tank.
It has an Intelligent 4-Wheel Drive system with sensors to detect the need to transfer more torque to the rear wheels. This is a great technology to boost the fuel economy. In normal road conditions, 96 % of the torque goes to the front wheels which reduces power transmission losses included to drive rear wheels when its not needed. When the sensors detect that there is a need to power the rear wheels, they can transmit up to 90% of the total torque to rear wheels which is very helpful in a rough off-road terrain. This system work in coordination with the ABS which makes the ride safe and smooth.
Skoda Yeti has been crash tested on EuroNCAP standard and has passed these tests with best possible rating which makes it one of the safest SUVs. It has up to 9 Airbags for the safety of passengers in case of an accident.

Skoda has not given any official information on pricing of Yeti in India as yet. The Yeti is expected to come out later this year and expected to be price very competitively compared to Honda CRV and Hyundai Tuscon. I have heard rumors of it being prices close to Rs. 12 Lakhs, but those rumors are just rumors, real price will be disclosed officially by Skoda near to its roll-out later in the year 2010.
