The fully-imported Skoda Superb has been relaunched in India. Note that this is still the second-gen model and not the latest third-gen version which made its global debut last year. The main difference from the outgoing model is that this will be a CBU model. Only 100 units of this Superb will be allotted to India. This Superb will be available in a single L&K trim. Since this is a full import, the price is a staggering Rs 54 lakh, ex-showroom. This is a whopping Rs 16.71 lakh higher than the outgoing model. Let us take a look at the details of all that’s new.
Skoda Superb Relaunched – Updates
The new Skoda Superb still gets the familiar 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine which generates a healthy 190 hp and 320 Nm of peak power and torque. This engine pairs with a sporty 7-speed DSG (DCT) automatic gearbox. It is now BS6 Phase 2-compliant. However, there are a few differences in comparison to the made-in-India model. These include things like Dynamic Chassis Control, Active Tyre Pressure Monitoring Systema and 9 Airbags. There are only three colour options to choose from – Rosso Brunello (New), Water World Green (New) and Magic Black. It gets 18-inch alloy wheels and a 9-inch Columbus Infotainment System.
Rivals
In India, there aren’t all that many direct rivals to the Skoda Superb at this price point. Still, the orthodox competitor has to be the Toyota Camry hybrid. It retails at a starting price of Rs 46.17 lakh, ex-showroom. In terms of the German rivals, there are cars like the Audi A4, Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine, BMW 2 Series, etc. Hence, it is certainly competing against entry-level German luxury cars.

Author’s Note
With such a steep price point for essentially the same engine as the Audi A4, it would be interesting to see how the potential customers react to this CBU Skoda Superb. Note that Skoda only needs to sell 100 units in our market. It often does this brief stint where it imports a handful of cars as limited edition models and is generally sold out within no time. We have seen this in the past with cars like the Skoda Octavia RS. Let us see how the fortune of this Superb pans out.
