Skoda India, the Indian subsidiary of popular Czech automaker, launched the Octavia facelift earlier this year. It’s even planning to launch the much anticipated Kodiaq 7-seater SUV. Before the launch of the SUV, however, the manufacturer has come up with a special edition of the Rapid. Dubbed as the new Rapid Monte Carlo, the latest special edition of the Skoda Rapid has an ex-showroom price of Rs 10.75 lakh. This car has been kitted up to pay homage to the Skoda’s racing heritage. This edition brings in most of the features and cosmetic upgrades that are available in the international markets. The upper-C-segment sedan gets a red exterior paint along with an all-black trim for the interior. Other than this, the car also gets some more black-painted bits like an all-black grille, black-painted ORVM caps and black-painted 16-inch alloy wheels. The car also gets a lip-spoiler for the tailgate. The interior gets aluminum finish for the scuff plates, a flat bottom steering wheel and faux carbon fibre trim. The black seat upholstery comes with contrasting red stitching.

In India, the Skoda Rapid Monte Carlo comes with the same engines that power the regular car. This means you get to choose between a 1.5-litre Turbo Diesel and a 1.6-litre Naturally Aspirated petrol. While the petrol engine outputs 103 BHP, the oil burner goes on to offer 108 BHP. Both the engines come mated to a 5-speed Manual Transmission as standard. While you can also order the petrol Rapid with a six-speed torque converter automatic, the Diesel model offers a seven-speed DSG.

The Monte Carlo special edition for this sedan is available with the same set of engines that power the standard trims. The engine options include a 1.5-litre TDI Diesel engine and a 1.6-litre MPI Petrol engine.
The Diesel engine on offer here outputs a max. power of 108 BHP at 3,750 RPM and a peak torque of 250 Nm between 1,500-3,000 RPM. The Petrol engine, on the other hand, outputs 103 BHP and 153 Nm. Both these engines come mated to a 5-speed Manual Transmission as standard. However, while you can order the Petrol engine with a 6-speed toque converter Automatic Transmission, the oil burner can be bought with a 7-speed DSG.

As the engines come from the standard variants, the mileage that the Monte Carlo special edition will offer shall also remain the same. The Petrol engine will deliver around 15.41 KMPL with a manual gearbox and 14.84 KMPL with an automatic. The Diesel engine will deliver around 21.13 KMPL with a manual gearbox and around 21.72 KMPL with the DSG. While not as frugal as, say, the Maruti Ciaz, this car still offers a pretty decent fuel efficiency.

As you can read in the section above, the New Skoda Rapid Monte Carlo Special Edition will feature a very sporty black colour theme all around. Among the highlights of the design of this limited version will be a black roof, new black alloys wheels and black interiors. Also, the chrome seen on the standard car will be ditched in favour of a sportier black theme. Expect the existing set of colours options to get the Monte Carlo makeover. Also, there will be a new shade of red available.
On the inside, the beige will be replaced by black. The seats will get contrasting stitching that will lend the cabin a very sporty feel. Other additions might include a flat-bottom steering. Other features will remain the same as the standard model.
