The BS4 fuel becoming mandatory from 1st April 2010 in 13 major cities has made most of car brands wonder since the existing variants would not be sold in these cities due to BS IV norm’s compliance. And with Volkswagen coming with new Jetta and Passat, Skoda is also ready with Laura and Superb sporting the same engines as Jetta and Passat.
The cars will sport the 2 liter, CRDI diesel engine generating 139 BHP which powers the Jetta and Passat as well and the older Pump Duse will be phased out completely.

Previously Laura was coming in two variants, one 1.9 TDI and the other 2.0TDI but with the new rules imposed by the government, the car will only come with 1 variant. According to Skoda the new engines are much more refined than the older Pump Duse engines and will offer better refinement and performance. Competitors for Laura are Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla Altis, Chevrolet Cruze and Volkswagen Jetta.

The official prices have not been declared yet, but the new price will certainly incur some marginal increase of about Rs. 10000 to Rs. 20000.
