Skoda has unveiled its first compact SUV in the form of Kylaq at a starting price of a competitive Rs 7.89 lakh
The variant-wise features list of the recently unveiled Skoda Kylaq is out. Kylaq will be the first-ever sub-4m compact SUV from the Czech carmaker. This represents its willingness to cater to a wide range of customers in the 3rd-largest car market on the planet. Skoda’s India 2.0 initiative has worked wonders for the carmaker. Its two products – Kushaq and Slavia – have been immensely successful. They made India the largest market for Skoda outside Europe. Taking this approach forward and leveraging the flexibility of the highly localized MQB A0 IN platform, we will now get the Skoda Kylaq, which is, in essence, a mini Kushaq. It will be available in 4 versions – Classic, Signature, Signature+ and Prestige. Let us take a look at the details here.

The reason is quite simple. It generally offers tons of convenience, connectivity, safety and tech amenities to pamper the occupants at an attractive price. In fact, this model mostly makes the most value-for-money proposition in the lineup of most cars on sale in India. Specs
The upcoming Skoda Kylaq will borrow powertrain and transmission options from its elder sibling, the Kushaq. However, unlike the Kushaq, there will only be one engine and two transmission options. This is the peppy 1.0-litre 3-cylinder TSI turbo petrol mill which produces a decent 115 PS and 178 Nm of peak power and torque. Owners will be able to pair this mill with either a 6-speed manual or a torque converter automatic transmission. Due to its lower weight than the Kushaq, Skoda claims that the compact SUV will be able to clock a speed of 100 km/h from a standstill in a mere 10.5 seconds. Furthermore, the top speed is a cool 188 km/h. The automatic transmission will be available on the top two trims.

My View
Skoda has been in the process of expanding its footprint in the country. With the Kylaq, it wants to cater to the masses. Utilizing the same platform as the Kushaq and Slavia, the Kylaq is definitely roomier than its rivals. On top of that, Skoda claims that due to a high level of localization, the ownership costs will be a lot more attractive than the Skoda cars of the yesteryears. We will get to know all details on December 2 which is when this mini Kushaq goes into production.
