Skoda Kylaq Base Model vs Top Model – Exterior Styling

For instance, at the front, both models get LED headlamps, LED DRLs, LED taillamps, rear LED number plate illumination and manual coming/leaving home lights. However, the top variant additionally boasts LED projector headlamps, LED rear turn indicator, LED reverse lamp and front LED fog lamps with static cornering function. That makes driving in foggy conditions relatively easier. Also, the top variant gets automatic headlamps along with automatic front wiper system with rain sensor.
Apart from that, the front fascia contains a silver skid plate underneath the front bumper, whereas the base model gets it in black. The former definitely looks more sporty. On the sides, a major difference lies in the wheels. The base version has 16-inch steel wheels with full cover, while the top trim gets 17-inch dual-tone alloy wheels. At the rear, the taillamps are connected by a black panel in the top model. On the other hand, there is an empty space between the taillamps in the base Kylaq. Finally, the tail section also carries a rugged skid plate on the bumper with the top variant. Overall, the distinctions between the two are enough for people to know which is which.

Both variants of the Skoda Kylaq wear the engine which it borrows from the Kushaq and Slavia. It is a familiar 1.0-litre 3-cylinder TSI turbo petrol mill that generates a decent 115 PS and 178 Nm of peak power and torque, respectively. The base Classic trim is available with a sole 6-speed manual transmission, while the top Prestige version can be had with either a 6-speed manual or a torque converter automatic transmission. Hence, the buyers in the lower trim will have to make do with the manual gearbox. The acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h comes up in just 10.5 seconds and the top speed is 188 km/h. Skoda says that the ARAI-claimed mileage for the manual model is 19.68 km/l. This is a healthy number for a peppy engine.

My View
Choosing between these two trims is not all that difficult. The main foundation for your decision will be your budget. If you are tight on the finances and just want to own the Skoda Kylaq for its performance and driving characteristics, the base model serves that purpose brilliantly. In fact, you can even go for a slightly higher mid-trim. That will give you a great balance between affordability and features. On the other hand, if you are one of those who wish to experience a vehicle with all its bells and whistles and are not bound by a strict budget, opting for the top model is the way to go. Many people just want everything in their car from the factory. In any case, it is a matter of personal preference. You can go wrong with either of these compelling variants.
