The Czech car marque is about to launch a new compact SUV to rival the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV3XO and Maruti Brezza
The Skoda Kylaq base model has been spotted testing on the Indian roads. What is particularly cool is that both interior and exterior visuals are available. Kylaq will be a compact SUV from the Czech auto giant which will sit under its popular Kushaq SUV. In fact, it will borrow a few elements from its elder sibling as well. India is Skoda’s largest market outside Europe. Hence, it wants to expand its footprint in our market and capitalize on its current popularity. That is exactly what the Kylaq will offer. It will cater to a wider range of potential customers. Here are the details of the upcoming compact SUV.
Skoda Kylaq Base Model Spied
The video comes from Namascar Motors on YouTube. The visuals capture spy shots of the heavily camouflaged Kylaq in its most affordable variant. While we are not able to deduce a lot of aspects due to the covering, there are still some clear giveaways to know that it is the entry-level trim. At the front, it gets a split-headlamp setup just like on the top model. However, it remains to be seen whether or not these will be LED units. Apart from that, we know that it won’t have fog lamps, perhaps not even on the top trim. On the sides, we get to see black wheel covers for steel wheels and prominent wheel arches. Also, the turn indicators are mounted on ORVMs.
At the rear, we clearly witness a few components. These include a shark fin antenna, a high-mount stop lamp, LED taillamps and a sporty bumper. However, it doesn’t get a rear wiper, washer or defogger. On the inside, there is no infotainment display, the instrument cluster is analogue just like on the Kushaq, and the gear lever has a chrome insert. All in all, many elements will be borrowed from the base trim of the larger Kushaq, which is a great thing. More details will emerge going forward.
Specs
While there have been no official announcements regarding the powertrain options, we can safely assume that it will carry the potent 1.0-litre 3-cylinder TSI turbo petrol engine much like the Kushaq and Slavia. It is good for 115 PS and 178 Nm of peak power and torque. This engine could pair with either a manual or an automatic transmission. This is a peppy engine and since the Skoda Kylaq will weigh less than the Kushaq, I am sure that the performance will be enthusiastic. The prices could range from Rs 8 lakh to Rs 13 lakh, ex-showroom. I shall keep an eye out for more details.
