Skoda had promised to keep the service costs down with the Kushaq because of the high level of localisation, but some odd instances of insane service costs keep cropping up from time to time.
A Skoda Kushaq owner was shocked to witness an extraordinary service cost estimate when he took his SUV for its first free service. Kushaq is the first car based on the Indianized MQB A0 IN platform which promised lower maintenance and service costs due to highly localised components. And this was true for a lot of cases as the costs of spare parts came down quite drastically. However, in this odd instance, the service centre managed to hand out an estimate of a whopping Rs 16,000 to the customer when, technically, it was the first free service.

Service Cost Estimate For Skoda Kushaq
A certain Gaurav Sureka shared the invoice of the service cost estimate on the Skoda Kushaq owners’ page on Facebook. He mentions that initial estimate that was conveyed to him was around Rs 7,000 – 8,000 but the final amount came out to be over Rs 16,000. This is especially surprising because the service is being done at 14,000 km and it is supposed to be the first free service. The invoice includes things like washing, cleaning, wheel balancing, alignment, cowl top cleaning, fuel tank cleaning, AC disinfectant, germ clean, anti-microbial sanitization, and engine coating.

The labour charges for things like germ clean and anti-microbial sanitization are Rs 2,424 and Rs 1,120 respectively. Along with this, the wheel balancing and alignment costs Rs 1,050 in labour charges. In the end, the total cost of spare parts is Rs 6,153, whereas the total labour cost comes out to be Rs 7,684. The GST is added on top of this amount taking the sum to Rs 16,317. Now, it is generally advised not to keep saying yes to everything the service advisor tells you because that will increase the service costs significantly and you could easily get these things done at your local mechanic shops.

We suggest that you read the user’s manual before going for a service and get only those things repaced/serviced which are mentioned in the manual. Also, cleaning, washing, wheel alignment and balancing, etc. could be done at the local car shops rather than at the official service stations to save a lot of money.
