Earlier this week, we reported that the Skoda Kushaq is finally being recalled voluntarily by the carmaker in order to change the fuel pump of all the vehicles. This is being done to resolve the EPC (Electronic Power Control) issue that many owners had faced within days of the purchase of the car. As per Zac Hollis, Director, Sales and Marketing, Skoda Auto India, the original fuel pump is being replaced with a ‘more robust unit suitable to the varying fuel quality in India.’ Soon after this news broke, several Kushaq owners and prospective buyers breathed a sigh of relief as it looked like the made-for-India Hyundai Creta-rival from the Czech carmaker would finally offer the much-required peace of mind. Meanwhile, an owner who got his car’s fuel pump changed with the earlier unit reports a repeat of the EPC issue. It should be noted here that the replacement fuel pump for this owner’s car is NOT the ‘more robust’ unit that will be installed in all cars as a part of the recall drive. Hence, it’s hardly surprising that this error has occurred.

The above has been reported by one Rajarshi Sarker who bought his Skoda Kushaq 1.0 Style variant from PPS Skoda Bengaluru on 29th July. He drove his car for 2,220 km from Bengaluru to Muzaffarpur and his car worked like a charm. He had his car tanked up at Chittoor, Adilabad, Allahabad and Varanasi. However, on 22nd August, his car almost ran out of fuel and he could feel the accelerator pedal become a bit jerky. Soon, he realized that the PEC light has come on. Next, he visited a Skoda workshop who cleared the error. Subsequently, Rajarshi got the error a few times but it used to vanish on its own. However, one fine day, the car just stalled and had to be towed to the workshop.
It is at this point that the fuel pump was changed and the error didn’t reappear even after 600 km of driving. However, Rajarshi has today reported that the EPC light has re-surfaced along with the Check Engine Light. In fact, even the car stalled for some time but started again with the aforementioned lights glowing.
