Skoda is reportedly bringing a new Sub-4 Metre SUV, 6/7-Seater SUV to India. It is expected to go directly against the Tata Nexon And Kia Carens.
Recently, Skoda Auto India launched the Slavia car model in India. The mid-size sedan comes with a starting price of Rs 10.69 lakh (ex-showroom) for the 1.0L TSI petrol variants. Now, it is said to be working on bringing a new compact SUV into the Indian market. Zac Hollis (Director, Sales and Marketing, Skoda India) has confirmed that the upcoming vehicle might be a sub-4 meter SUV that will go against the likes of Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, and Maruti Suzuki Brezza. Whereas a three-row SUV is said to compete with the Kia Carens and Hyundai Alcazar.

Additionally, the Czech company is planning to enter the electric vehicle (EV) segment via CKD (completely knocked down) route. The Skoda Enyaq electric SUV might be the company’s first EV in the country. It is designed on the MEB platform and comes with multiple battery packs. While the 55kWh model offers a range of 340km, the 77kW model offers a 510km range. The Skoda Enyaq EV also comes in a sportier RS version with an AWD system. It offers power worth 225kW. This model can go from 0 to 100kmph in 6.2 seconds and offers a maximum speed of 180kmph. As of now, there is no official confirmation about the upcoming cars and their launch dates.
The Tata Nexon has been one of the top 10 highest-selling cars in the country. It is known for its safety features and its 5-star GNCAP rating. The EV variant of the car has also become quite popular in India. The Tata Nexon is powered by 1.2-liter turbocharged petrol (120PS/170Nm)/ 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel (110PS/260Nm) engines paired with a standard 6-speed MT and a 6-speed AMT. On the other hand, the Tata Nexon EV offers 129PS/ 245Nm of torque. It is paired with single-speed automatic transmission and a 30.2kWh battery. Both standard and EV models come with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 8-speaker Harman sound system, electric sunroof, leatherette-wrapped steering wheel, blacked-out ORVMs, 16-inch alloys, and more. Safety features include cornering stability control, dual front airbags, and ISOFIX child seat anchors. However, the Tata Nexon EV lacks the Xpress Cool feature (cools down the cabin quicker) and the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

The Kia Carens feature quite a modern design and comes with a lengthy list of convenience features. It will be available in five trims – Premium, Prestige, Prestige Plus, Luxury, and Luxury Plus. The three-row MPV comes in three engine options – 1.5-liter petrol (115PS/144Nm) with a 6-speed manual, a 1.4-liter turbo-petrol (140PS/242Nm) with a 6-speed manual/ 7-speed DCT), and 1.5-liter diesel (115PS/250Nm) with a 6-speed manual, 6-speed automatic. You will get three drive modes: Eco, Normal, and Sport. The safety package includes six airbags, electronic stability control, and a tire pressure monitoring system. The company has also added cruise control, All-Wheel Disc Brakes Standard across all trims), Paddle Shifters, Ventilated Front Seats, SkyLight Sunroof, 2nd Row Seat “One Touch Easy Electric Tumble”, 64-Colour Ambient Mood Lighting, Air Purifier, Distinct Black High Gloss Dashboard, Connected Car Tech, BOSE Premium Sound System with 8 Speakers, and a 10.25-inch Infotainment Display seamlessly integrated with the Digital Instrument Cluster.
