The Skoda Kamiq scores an impressive 96% safety protection in adult occupancy and 85% for child occupancy and also comes with a suite of driver assistance systems.
The India-bound Skoda Kamiq has scored a 5-star safety rating in the recent round of crash tests conducted by the Euro NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme). In this round of crash tests, altogether seven cars were tested – which by the way, also included the Mercedes-Benz EQC.
Going deeper into the safety scores of the Skoda Kamiq, it scored a strong 96% in adult occupant protection and 85% for that of a child occupant. Safety of vulnerable road users – like pedestrians and cyclists – has been rated at 80% while the driver assist functions’ effectiveness in the Kamiq is rated at 76%.
Euro NCAP also said that the Kamiq’s passenger compartment remained stable under impact and protection of all critical body areas of the occupants was good or adequate through the various tests that the Kamiq had to undergo. The Kamiq is very well equipped in terms of safety features, hence the high scores from Euro NCAP. It gets front and side airbags, seat-belt reminder and pretensioner along with load limiter, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), speed assistance and lane assist systems. These features come as standard across all the variants of the Kamiq in Europe.

The Skoda Kamiq is of particular interest to the Indian market. Under Volkswagen Group’s ‘India 2.0’ strategy, Skoda plans to introduce four new cars in India by 2021 and one of them will of course be an SUV which will be based on the Kamiq. The production model of this SUV will be previewed by a concept at the 2020 Auto Expo. However, the India-spec model will be based on a heavily localised MQB A0 IN platform and it will not offer the advanced suite of safety features available on the international spec car.
