Skoda India has its reputed name in the large and premium car segment. The luxury sedans like Skoda Laura, Skoda Superb, Skoda Octavia are already popular in India. There is lots of buzz already about the soon-to-be-released Skoda Yeti SUV in India. The small hatchback segment by Skoda, which is presently represented by Skoda Fabia does not compete with the small car market in India. Fabia represents a luxury hatchback just like Honda Jazz does. Fabia does not come at a price-point which is needed to attract the buyers with Rs.4 Lakh to Rs. 5 lakhs budget.
Skoda is owned by Volkswagen and the small car from Skoda is expected to based on the Volkswagen UP concept. Volkswagen has already revealed its intention to launch a small car, smaller than Volkswagen Polo in India, which could be a Volkswagen Fox or Volkswagen Ebisa launch in India. The launch of Skoda small car may eat up some slice of Volkswagen small car sales, but this is acceptable to VW as both brands have different brand loyalties associated to them.
In a conversation with media, Thomas Kuehl, Sales & Marketing, Skoda India quoted –
All this while, we have been in the high level of the lifestyle. People like our cars, we need to be a little more affordable.
The production of small car Skoda Jouster in India will not be a big challenge owing to the VW Chakan Plant in Pune. Being a small car, it will be kept less than 4 m in length and less than 1200cc in engine displacement to keep it in low tax brackets and make it competitive car with other small Indian cars like Maruti Wagon R, Hyundai i10, Chevrolet Beat, Ford Figo,Maruti Ritz, Nissan Micra etc.
Price Of Skoda Small Car – Skoda Joyster
The motive behind bringing a small car is to keep it price competitive and make it an attractive buy compared to the existing small cars in India. The price of the Skoda small car will be kept between Rs. 3 Lakh and Rs. 4 Lakh, this is an approximate assumption.
