The seven-seater MG Hector will have exact same dimensions of the regular Hector and will be equally well equipped and then some more with the seven-seats.
MG Motors launched their very first car in India, the Hector, last week and that they have done at a very competitive introductory price of Rs. 12.18 lakhs, ex-showroom. The MG Hector is a huge car and it absolutely dwarfs all other cars in the segment. We knew by the size that a seven-seater MG Hector would arrive soon. Now, we can tell you that the same is going to arrive on our shores by March, 2020.
The MG Hector competes against the likes of the Tata Harrier, Mahindra XUV500, Jeep Compass, and Hyundai Creta in size. And while its bigger and longer than all of them, its only available as a 5-seater. The XUV500 is however the only SUV in the segment to come with seven seats. MG might not call it a full-fledged 7-seater but they have confirmed that there will be 3-row variant of the Hector coming by early 2020.
The seven-seater version of the MG Hector will have the same dimensions as that of the regular Hector. The Baojun 530 SUV, the Chinese sibling of the Hector on which it is based, is available in both five and seven-seater variants in the Chinese market. The current engines in the Hector are still BS-IV compliant and this seven-seater Hector will come at the same time when MG motors updates their engines to be BS-VI compliant closer to the April 1, 2020 deadline.
As for the MG Hector itself, the SUV comes fully loaded with bells and whistles you have not seen in the segment before. The iSmart connected technology is quite intuitive and it takes voice commands very well. It also has a lot of segment first features like the dual-pane panoramic sunroof and much more. All of these features will also make its way in the seven-seater Hector as well.

Talking about the powertrains, the same set of the engines from the Hector will continue with its bigger brother as well, perhaps in a slightly higher states of tune. That means there will be the Fiat-sourced 2.0L, diesel engine, and the 1.5L petrol engines in hybrid and non-hybrid configurations. Transmission options will also be continued with the 6-speed manual and DCT gearboxes.

When the seven-seater MG Hector is finally launched in India, it will go against the likes of the next-gen Mahindra XUV500, the seven-seater version of the Harrier that is also coming soon, and the seven-seater version of the next-gen Hyundai Creta as well. Prices of the seven-seater version of the Hector will also go up naturally and we expect it to be in the range of Rs. 1-1.5 lakhs.
