The Renault Duster might not be on sale in India, but it is certainly still popular in many other international markets
The second-generation Renault Duster is still on sale in the Brazilian market and it recently got an update. Note that Duster was an immensely popular product in India back in the early 2010s. In fact, it led to the creation of the mid-size SUV segment. It remained in production until 2022. Today, there are over half a dozen SUVs in this space. The Koreans are the ones to beat. In fact, we know that the new Duster, which has been launched in some markets abroad, will be launched in India in the coming year. For now, let us take a look at the details of the Brazilian model.
Second-Generation Renault Duster Gets New Update
Interestingly, this version of the Duster made its debut back in 2017. However, it was available for the Brazilian market only in 2020. Moreover, it received its mid-cycle facelift only in 2024. That is a bit odd since in 2024, the third-generation Renault Duster had already arrived. What’s even more surprising is the fact that even today, the second-gen Duster in Brazil has received an update. This indicates that the French auto giant has no plans of introducing the new model in the market any time soon.
Mostly, the changes to this SUV are minor and external. For instance, you will now get a shark fin antenna, LED headlights, a glossy black roof with a matching grille, 17-inch Tergan alloy wheels, Megalith Gray skid plates and roof bars. If you go for the option Outsider Pack, there are auxiliary lights on the front bumper along with additional side moulding, etc. Hence, the changes are restricted to the exterior styling more than anything else.
Specs
In Brazil, the Renault Duster gets two powertrain options – a 1.6-litre SCe petrol and a more powerful 1.3-litre turbo petrol flex-fuel. These generate 118 hp and 161 hp of maximum power, respectively. Also, the transmission duties are carried out by a manual or a CVT with the former and an XTronic CVT automatic with the latter. These power the front wheels. In Brazil, the prices start at R$132,990 (Rs 20.20 lakh) and go up to R$167,690 (Rs 25.45 lakh). It is almost certain that we won’t get it in India. Rather, we will experience the latest generation model by next year.
