Mahindra Scorpio N is the most successful SUV in the country looking at the number of bookings and waiting periods to get your hands on one.
In the latest turn of events, some Mahindra Scorpio N buyers are looking to take legal action against the Indian automotive giant about the long waiting times on the SUV. Mahindra received lakhs of bookings for the Scorpio N immediately after its launch. This has to be among the most popular SUVs in our market ever. However, the car marque has struggled to meet the demand, and understandably so. The last couple of years were terrible for the production of cars due to lockdowns, and then the semi-conductor issue plagued the industry. As a result, the delivery dates kept getting delayed causing frustration among buyers.

Mahindra Scorpio N Buyers Seek Legal Action
It is common knowledge that the top trims of cars are where the carmakers make the most money due to high profit margins. As a result, they try to prioritise these over the base or mid-trims. That is precisely the issue the buyers are facing. The waiting times on the top Z8L automatic trim is around 24-26 weeks in India compared to the mid-spec Z4 trim, whose waiting period is an astounding 60-65 weeks. Similarly, the base Z2 trim commands a waiting time of 52-54 weeks. This has annoyed a lot of potential buyers who booked the base and the mid-trims, and their delivery dates are getting delayed.

He was supposed to get the delivery of his Scorpio N between January and March 2023. However, the link that was given to him to check the status of the SUV has stopped functioning and he has not received a call from the dealership regarding the whereabouts of his Scorpio N. As a result, he is seeking legal action against Mahindra.

Semiconductor Shortage Major Cause of Delay
We know that the semiconductor issue has caused delays in the production of cars since most cars use tons of these chips in modern times. Almost all car functions are electronically operated, for which semiconductor chips are needed. Since these are used more by the top variants, Mahindra is also focusing more on them. This leaves the base models hanging when it comes to production. We can only hope that Mahindra recognizes this and finds a way to balance the waiting times on all models.
