Cricket is the most popular sport in India and offers a great potential for money making. We are well aware of the amount of money that the Indian cricket team members make out of advertisements solely because of their association with the sport and now Sachin Tendulkar and Yuvraj SIngh have been offered with an amazing opportunity to invest in an upcoming series.
Both the cricketers have been approached to buy car racing teams in the upcoming i1 Super Series, scheduled to commence from 18 December, 2011. The teams cost a mind boggling USD 5 million. The proposed series will comprise of nine teams, with two cars each, to compete against each other at different Asian cities in 14 races scheduled across seven weekends.
CEO of event promoters Machdar Motorsports, M Darshan at a media conference said,"Cricket and Bollywood stars and a few top industrialists have already shown a keen interest to own the nine Indian city-based franchise teams. Cricketers Tendulkar and Yuvraj Singh have been approached,"
Sachin is a huge Formula 1 fan and previously owned a Ferrari which justifies the reason why the cricket legend was approached. Asking on whether Mahendra Singh Dhoni was approached for the same, the promoters said no comments.
M Darshan later added, "The cricketers, if they want, can also form a consortium and own a franchise team,"
The teams are only available by invitations and no auctions will be conducted. As per the information, the list of all the team owners and series’ broadcast partners will be announced soon. The list of the Asian cities include the following:
- New Delhi
- Chennai
- Abu Dhabi
- Doha
- Dubai
- Kuala Lumpur
