Royal Enfield is about to launch a new variant of the Thunderbird to capitalize on the fast-growing premium cruiser bikes market. Dubbed as the Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500X, the new motorcycle gets many cosmetic updates along with more features. There is no change in the specifications, which means the BS-IV compliant, fuel injected, 499cc single cylinder continues to output 27 bhp and 41.3 Nm. The new features on offer include new black-painted alloy wheels, tubeless tyres (a first for any RE), one-piece seat, and a flat handlebar. There are good chances that the new Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500X will launch at a price of roughly Rs 2.1 lakh.

From the looks of it, the Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500X launch date will fall in January 2018. As you can see in the images above, the upcoming motorcycle has been spotted at what seems to be a service centre. Hence, there are good chances that the new model’s launch is very much in the offing. Carblogindia contacted a Royal Enfield dealership but couldn’t get any information regarding the launch of this motorcycle.

The regular Thunderbird model costs roughly Rs 1.98 lakh (ex-showroom). The new 500X offers more features and hence, could have an ex-showroom price of roughly Rs 2.10 lakh. The motorcycle will be able to justify the price tag through more features and fresher looks. The new model gets vibrant colour schemes and bits like tubeless tyres. It may be noted here that this is the first time for any RE to offer tubeless radials.

The specifications are likely to be same as those of the regular model. Powering the motorcycle will be a BS-IV compliant, fuel injected, 499 cc single cylinder motor that comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The engine puts out a maximum power of 27 bhp at 5,250 rpm and a peak torque of 41.3 Nm at 4,000 rpm. The suspension and the braking systems remain the same. The Thunderbird 500 X gets telescopic forks at the front and gas-charged shock absorbers at the rear. Braking duties are handled by a 2-poston caliper and a 280 mm disc brake at the front and a 240 mm, single-piston caliper setup at the rear.

Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500X Design & Colours
The new Thunderbird 500 X looks fresher and arguably more stylish than the regular cruiser motorcycle from Royal Enfield. The new bike is available in as many as four new colours – Red, Yellow, Blue, and White. The 500X gets a dual-tone colour treatment. The new multi-spoke alloy wheels and all the cycle parts come painted in matte-black. The twin-seat arrangement has been replaced with a single seat. The side fenders get the new ‘500X’ badges. The tall handlebars of the regular T’bird 500 have been replaced with a flatter unit. Overall, the new bike impresses due to the several styling updates it carries.
