Royal Enfield India, the iconic motorcycle maker has been facing capacity constrains which has led to long waiting time for the Royal Enfield Motorcycles in India. Royal Enfield is the two wheelers division of Eicher Motors India and makes the popular Motorcycle Bullet and Royal Enfield Classic. To overcome the capacity constrains, Royal Enfield will set up a new manufacturing facility at Oragadam near Chennai which will have a capacity of producing 1.5 Lakhs Motorcycle units annually. The total size of this unit will be about 50 acers and will be developed with an expanse of Rs. 350 Crores.
Royal Enfield has been allotted this land at the Oragadam SIPCOT Industrial Park by the state government for developing its plant. Announcing this development, Eicher Motors CMD Siddhartha Lal quoted:
We have received the letter for the land from the state government . We will start construction immediately after getting the possession. We should be ready with the plant by the first quarter of 2013
This plant is expected to improve the overall production capacity of Royal Enfield bikes and will cut down the waiting time for the buyers which is a good news for the biking enthusiasts.
