Itโs not an uncommon sight to see expensive luxury cars breaking down on water-logged streets in many parts of India. In fact, such sights are so common that witnessing expensive vehicles incurring heavy damage to the internals on flooded roads has lost the shock element. But things get a bit different when the car in question is a rather rare luxo-barge that costs upwards of Rs 7.5 Crore. In a country where most struggle to buy anything costlier than, say, a Hyundai Verna, a Rolls Royce Ghost is among the rarest vehicles out there. Hence, a mighty Roller breaking down due to improper infrastructure definitely garners plenty of eyeballs.
Video of Ill-Fated Rolls Royce Ghost Goes Viral
The case in point here is a Rolls Royce that recently broke down on a water-logged road in Delhi. The capital recently received the first spell of heavy showers, which led to quite a bit of water-logging in many parts of the city. Many cars bore the brunt and were rendered useless due to the heavy flooding. Among these is a Rolls Royce Ghost which was seen stranded on a main road, with its hazard lights blinking. The video of the ill-fated luxury sedan was quick to go viral and received all sorts of reactions from the netizens. ย โNo matter the price of the car, the whole point of having a car is to be able to drive it whenever you want. Itโs sad to see a Rolls Royce Ghost breaking down on the waterlogged roads of Delhi. The sadder thing is how the infrastructure is in the capital of India,โ reads the caption to the video posted on a social media site.
The said video starts with visuals of the black Rolls Royce Ghost stuck on the water-logged street. From the looks of it, the episode took place on a main road, which goes on to reveal the poor state of the drainage system. Shot by a man driving a humble Maruti Suzuki, the video even shows some two-wheeler users pulling their vehicles after they stopped working. As is the case with such content, there were many amusing reactions from social media users. One user wrote – “That guy bought a Land Rover Defender that same evening.โ Another added,โRolls-Royce literally got Ghosted.โ While yet another joked,โThar on the way to pull off.โ
Meanwhile, many were disappointed with the fact that such sophisticated vehicles fail when mass-market cars seem to work just fine in such situations. A user commented, โWhatโs the rated water wading capacity for these luxury cars? When cheap cars have no issues with this water depthโฆ.โ Another comment read,โIt’s a shame the car couldn’t cope with water while others pass by easily. I wonder what is the point of buying such an expensive car,โ expressed a fifth while tagging the official Instagram page of Rolls-Royce.
Our View
As I said, visuals of expensive cars failing to wade through water-logged Indian roads are quite common. Sometime back, we even saw a video of a Volvo XC60 that broke down on a waterlogged road in Delhi. The said video was shared with the caption, โNot the cars you usually expect to get stuck on Delhi Roads, feat. Rolls-Royce Ghost and Volvo XC60 stuck on flooded Delhi roads.โ While it’s a shame to see such expensive cars having to meet with such an unfortunate fate, these incidents even highlight the sorry state of our infrastructure. The ever-growing population and the rampant construction has clearly rendered our drainage systems pretty useless. And ultimately, it’s always the tax-payer which pays the price for the administrator’s lack of action. The need of the hour is for the concerned authorities to take immediate action and ramp up the infrastructure. Until then, I hope there are no more such cases while I urge road-users to exercise extreme caution while venturing out on flooded streets.
