Rolls Royce Dawn Convertible Unveiled

British luxury car marque Rolls-Royce took the wraps off its newest offering, the Dawn. The latest convertible from BMW owned Rolly-Royce group was launched globally via a live webcast prior to its debut at the upcoming 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. The Dawn becomes the second soft-top convertible offering from Rolls-Royce after the Phantom Drophead Coupe. Contrary to media speculation, the new Rolls-Royce Dawn is not a Wraith drophead. 80% of the exterior body panels of the new Dawn are newly designed to accommodate an evolution of Rolls-Royce’s design language and to encapsulate highly contemporary four-seat super-luxury drophead architecture. Launch

The Rolls Royce Dawn India launch is expected to take place sometime during the first half of 2016. The Dawn will join the current range of Rolls-Royce in India which includes the Ghost, Phantom, Phantom Coupe and Phantom Drophead Coupe.

Price

Expect the Rolls Royce Dawn to come with a hefty sticker price of around INR 3-4 Cr.

Design & Features

The Dawn features unmistakable Rolls-Royce styling traits such as the massive upright front grille, long, flat bonnet and more. Although it bears strong resemblance to the Wraith and the Ghost, the company insists it is not simply a drophead version of the former, but an all new product with 80% of the exterior body panels of the Dawn being unique. Like every Rolls-Royce product, a hand painted coach line runs along the length of the Dawn and culminates into the rear portion which, again, bears a strong resemblance to the Wraith.

The Rolls Royce Dawn features a 2+2 seating layout, but unlike other convertibles there is more than ample space for seating four adults in supreme comfort. Rolls-Royce states, “At Rolls-Royce, we pride ourselves as creators of fine motor cars that also serve as social spaces,” comments Taylor. “The idea of creating a car like Dawn that can be used in comfort by only two adults on a day to day basis is anathema. In creating Dawn, we have accepted no compromise to the comfort and luxury of four adults who want to travel together in the pinnacle of style.”

The interiors are draped in the finest of materials including leather and wood trim which can, of course, be completely customised according to the buyers preferences. The wood on the surfaces of the trays are also book-matched down the centre console in a chevron pattern pointing forward. The talking point, quite obviously, is the retractable fabric roof top which can complete the operation in just 22 seconds at speeds of up to 50 km/h.

Specs

Powering the Rolls-Royce Dawn is the iconic twin-turbo 6.6-litre V12 powertrain. With a power output of 563bhp @ 5,250rpm and a torque rating of 780Nm @ 1,500rpm, Dawn’s driving experience is exceptional. Transmission duties are handled by an 8-speed automatic. The 0-100 km/h sprint is dismissed in 4.9 seconds as the RR Dawn peaks out at an electronically limited speed of 250km/h.
