Well, the reason he gave was quite funny and it was meant more as a joke than reality. In this video clip, he is heard saying that electric cars with all the electronics are capable of spying on people. He mentions that the government could tap into the electronics of the car and spy on him.

Her further comments hilariously that it could lead to him being arrested without any reason just because the government has his details. Now, this might be a satire on the way the government officials, particularly the Police treat black Americans in the USA. But he ends up giving a witty angle to the entire narrative. Although there is some ounce of truth to this in the sense that EVs and even modern cars with lots of electronics in them have the tendency to get hacked if the miscreants are knowledgable.
