Renault India has stopped the production of diesel cars, owing to the BS-6 norms. The Duster and Captur will only be available in petrol engines post-April.
Due to the upcoming BS-6 norms, Renault had decided to discontinue its diesel engines in India. As of now, it has three diesel cars including the Duster, Captur and Lodgy. While Duster and Captur are available with petrol engines as well, the Lodgy is not.
So, Renault has discontinued the Lodgy as well and only the leftover stock would be sold now. The MPV, despite being very spacious, never managed to attract buyers. Mainly, it was wedged between the Maruti Ertiga and Toyota Innova, the best-selling MPVs.
All the three models came with the same 1.5 Litre turbo-diesel engine, in two states of tuning. The base variants of Duster and Lodgy produced 85 PS and 200 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The high-end variants of Duster and Lodgy and Captur produced 110 PS and 245 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The Duster is the only one amongst the three which comes with a 6-speed AMT gearbox and an AWD variant.
The Duster and Captur use the same 1.5 Litre petrol engine, which produces 106 PS and 142 Nm of peak torque, with a 5-speed MT. The Duster petrol is now available with a CVT gearbox as well. However, in case of Duster, the top-end RXZ trim only comes in diesel.
Renault Duster was the company’s first popular product in India. With its bold many looks, spacious interiors, off-roading capability and torquey engine, it slowly became a choice for people who loved travelling to the hills and doing off-roading. With competition, the demand for Duster gradually fell, with around 500-700 units being sold every month now

Other two popular cars in Renault’s stable now are the Triber and Kwid. Triber is the most-affordable 7-seater you can buy in India, making it a hot-seller. With its price starting off at Rs 4.95 Lakhs to Rs 6.63 Lakhs (ex-showroom), it actually competes with Maruti WagonR, Maruti Swift, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios and Ford Figo. Its actual competitor is the Maruti Ertiga and Datsun GO+.
