The Renault Kwid has by now garnered a fair amount of success. While it is still to outsell the rather invincible Maruti Suzuki Alto, the sub-compact hatchback from Renault India has definitely managed to make a niche for itself by offering the value and ease of ownership of a small car along with several traits of an SUV. Not to rest on its laurels, Renault India is now planning to come up with a handful of new derivatives of this hatchback. One of these upcoming Renault cars will be a compact SUV based on the Kwid. Internally, this upcoming model is known as the ‘HBC’. Of course, the Kwid-based compact SUV will find itself slotted above the donor hatchback. In all chances, the upcoming Renault Kwid SUV car will rival the likes of Mahindra KUV100 and Maruti Ignis.

Currently, there is a wide gap between the Kwid and the Duster. The upcoming Renault Kwid SUV car will fill this void as it will be positioned and marketed as a micro-SUV. Currently, this small segment comprises of only two players – Mahindra & Mahindra and Maruti Suzuki. Both the KUV100 and the Ignis, particularly the latter, has successfully created a niche for itself in the market. Renault will try to grab a share of the sales-pie with its Kwid-based compact SUV. Details are pretty scarce at the moment. However, we have tried to put together all the available information on the upcoming model in our report here.
Renault Kwid SUV Car Launch Date
Well, in all honesty, it is a bit too early to speculate on a launch date. The company is yet to confirm anything about the launch date. Still, speculations are rife that this model is at least more than a year away from us. The company might come up with a design study for its upcoming model at the Auto Expo 2018. However, nothing is official at the moment. That said, you can safely watch this space for official details on the Renault Kwid SUV car launch date.
Renault Kwid SUV Car Price in India
Variant | Price (expected) |
Base Model | Rs 4.2 Lakh |
Top Model | Rs 5.8 Lakh |
The Kwid-based SUV will be, in all probability, cheaper than both the Ignis and the KUV100. A starting price of Rs 4.2 lakh looks very probable at the moment. The top model will likely cost slightly less than Rs 6 lakh. A competitive pricing like this will be achieved through a high amount of parts sharing with the Kwid. It will be based on the same low-cast CMF-A modular platform that underpins the popular sub-compact hatchback.
Renault Kwid SUV Car Specifications
Engine Type/ Displacement | 1.0 L SCe Petrol |
Power | 67 BHP |
Torque | 91 Nm |
Transmission (Gearbox) | 5-speed Manual Transmission; 5-speed AMT |
Mileage | 23.01 KMPL/24.04 KMPL |
The upcoming Kwid SUV will boast the same 1.0-litre SCe petrol engine that powers the more powerful variants of the donor hatchback. As the compact SUV will be onlyt slightly heavier than the hatchback sibling, there shouldn’t be a problem with using the 1000cc unit. For the Kwid 1.0, this three-cylinder engine outputs a maximum power of 67 BHP along with a peak torque of 91 Nm. Akin to the hatchback, even the upcoming Kwid SUV will offer two transmission options – 5-speed Manual and 5-speed AMT.
Renault Kwid SUV Car Mileage
City | 17 KMPL (MT)/17.5 KMPL (AMT) |
Highway | 21 KMPL (MT)/21.6 KMPL (AMT) |
ARAI | 23.01 KMPL (MT)/24.04 KMPL (AMT) |
Of course, even the mileage will be much like that of the hatchback. Fuel efficiency is definitely the Kwid’s forte and the new SUV should be similarly frugal. True, the addition of weight will lead to a slightly lesser mileage. However, the difference, if any, would be only marginal. Currently, the Kwid 1.0 offers an ARAI-certified mileage of 23.01 kmpl with a manual transmission and 24.04 kmpl with an AMT.

The upcoming Renault Kwid SUV car will be a low-cost, low-frills offering. Hence, we don’t expect a really long list of features. That said, the upcoming model will offer all the comfort and convenience features that are available on the top trims of the Kwid 1.0. Also, safety features are likely to include ABS and front airbags.
Renault Kwid SUV Car Exterior
The new compact SUV will look a lot like the Kwid. The front-fascia could be even bog similar. The side-profile, however, will look largely different, particularly B-pillar onward. This will be owing to the increased overall length and SUV body style. Akin to the Kwid, the upcoming SUV will look bold and will have a slightly aggressive stance. It could even enjoy a slightly higher ground clearance. The rear-end will also see some differences. While bits like the rear windscreen and tailgate might be carried over from the hatchback, there will be enough newness on offer. The Kwid SUV will look as SUV-ish as any of its rivals. We are sure about it as even the Kwid looks sufficiently rugged and has a distinctly SUV-ish stance.
Renault Kwid SUV Car Interior
Much like the exterior, even the interior will look similar to that of the Kwid. It’s very likely to have a similar dashboard with an all-digital speedo cluster. For the Kwid SUV, however, we expect the company to offer a tachometer. The centre-console will sport a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The centre stash will have piano-black trim. Further making the interior look more premium will be chrome garnishing around the aircon vents. The steering wheel will be the same sporty unit that the Kwid offers. The seats will enjoy a higher quality fabric.
Renault Kwid SUV Car Engine and Transmission
The upcoming Renault Kwid SUV car will have the same 1.0-litre three-cylinder, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that powers the Kwid. This DOHC engine produces a maximum power of 67 BHP along with a peak torque of 91 Nm. There will be two transmission options – a 5-speed Manual and a 5-speed AMT. The engine might see a re-tune for the upcoming compact SUV. This will be done to make up for the slight addition in weight. Rest assured, the tried-and-tested mechanicals of the Kwid will surely make the SUV sufficiently powerful and reliable.
