The recently launched Renault Kwid Electric comes with an affordable price tag AND a 1 star safety rating in Euro NCAP crash tests.
The Renault Kwid Electric has been launched in the European market, however, the affordable electric car comes with a 1 star Euro NCAP safety rating. The Dacia Spring EV is essentially an electric version of India’s Renault Kwid. It comes as Comfort and Comfort Plus options. While the base model of the Comfort trim costs €10,920 (Rs 9.3 lakh), the top variant comes at €12,220 (Rs 10.42 lakh). With the govt grant of around €9,500 (Rs 8.16 lakh), the Dacia Spring electric is one of the most affordable electric cars in Europe. Now, its safety ratings have been released by Euro NCAP.

The Renault Kwid EV comes with dual front airbags and weighed 970 kgs. For both the driver and the front passenger, the company has added a side head airbag and a side chest airbag. However, after being crash-tested by Euro NCAP, the Renault Kwid Electric has received a 1 star safety rating. As per Euro NCAP, the electric car offers poor whiplash protection on the back and presents a risk of injury to occupants of different sizes in different positions. While the passenger compartment remained stable during the frontal offset test, the structures in the dashboard presented a risk of injury. Additionally, the driver dummy’s chest is poorly protected, along wth the pelvis. The Renault Kwid EV also lacks a centre airbag to protect against occupant to occupant injuries. While the advanced eCall system partially fulfilled Euro NCAP’s requirements, the car has no multi-collision braking system to prevent secondary impacts.

The Renault Kwid Electric (Dacia Spring) is made for urban and semi-urban use. It measures 3.37 x 1.57 x 1.48m and comes with a 2.4m wheelbase. The small car delivers 45 Hp and 125 Nm. It is said to have a range of 305 kms in the city. The EV can go from 0 to 100 kmph in 19.1 seconds. It can achieve a top speed of 125 kmph. You can charge the vehicle via an AC charger is achieved in 4 hours. A DC fast charger allows you to charge the EV from 30 to 80 percent in 30 minutes. In terms of design, the Renault Kwid Electric sports a grey body color with fluorescent orange accents. It comes with a 151mm ground clearance and features faux skid plates. There are LED lights on the front and the back.
