Renault has showcased the K-ZE or the electric Kwid along with the Zoe EV at the Auto Expo 2020. It will be launched in India by 2022.
Renault has showcased the K-ZE electric hatchback, that is sold in the Chinese market. In India, Renault will name it the Kwid EV, as it is based on the popular hatch. The showcased model is the China-spec and India will get it by 2022.
The K-ZE looks a bit different from the Kwid that we have in India. The alloy wheels, front chrome-plated grille and the bumper set are completely different. However, the headlamp styling and side profile are the same as the India-spec Kwid.
It gets a 26.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack with an electric motor producing 44 BHP. Renault claims that the Kwid EV will offer a driving range of 271 kms. In India, we will get a slightly bigger battery pack, probably a similar driving range.
The battery can be charged from 0-80% in just 50 minutes, with the help of a public fast charger. With a standard AC wall/home charger, the car will take four to five hours to be charged fully. Most of the upcoming EVs in India will support multiple charging options.
Expect the Kwid EV to be equipped with premium features such as a rearview camera, the new 8-inch touch-screen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Rotary Driving Mode Selector, the same fully digital instrument console, Auto AC and much more. The cluster will display information such as distance to empty, remaining battery charge, nearby public charging stations and more advanced telematics.
Renault has also showcased the Zoe EV, which will be priced costlier at around 20 Lakhs. It will be launched in India next year and Renault might bring it in as a CBU. Only limited units will be available for sale.
