Renault is planning to bring a sub 4-metre compact SUV in the Indian market which will be based on Kwid’s platform. The Renault Kwid Compact SUV is rendered and speculations say that the SUV might launch by 2020. The car will compete mainly with Maruti Vitara Brezza and Mahindra TUV 300.
Renault Kwid Compact SUV is under plans as the SUV has been recently rendered. It will be a sub 4-metre compact SUV based on Kwid’s platform. It will use the extended CMF-A+ platform, featuring mostly local parts in India. The SUV will launch globally and would also come to India soon. It might borrow most of its features from Kwid. It would also use Kwid’s 1.0 Litre petrol engine. However, the body and the chassis might different from Kwid. Like Kwid, the compact SUV will also be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission or an AMT. The Kwid compact SUV is expected to be priced between Rs 6-10 lakhs, competing with Maruti Vitara Brezza and Mahindra TUV 300.

The compact SUV will be borrowing a lot of parts from Kwid. It is unlikely to receive a diesel engine so it might be available only in the petrol variant. Currently, Kwid uses the 1.0 Litre SCE engine which produces 67 BHP worth of power and 91 Nm worth of torque. As it is a compact SUV, it will get Manual as well as Automatic transmission, because of the competition.

The rendered images show that the body will share it similarities with Kwid. In the front, it will get the same front grille like the Kwid, with an extended bonnet. For a sporty look, it might get side skirts and wheel arches too. On the rear side of the body, it might get a shark fin antenna, roof rails, rear spoiler and a rear wiper. It might get LED tail lights and headlamps too. From the rendered images, the Kwid Compact SUV seems to look like the Kwid is botched up to look like an SUV.

The SUV might get features such as Parking assist, automatic climate control, LED DRLs and touch infotainment system. In terms of safety, it will get ABS and Dual-airbags as standard fittings. Other added safety features might include EBD, 6 airbags, hill assist and a rear parking camera. However, the compact SUV is unlikely to receive an electric sunroof and other premium features even in the top-end variant.

The Kwid Compact SUV is most likely to cost starting from Rs 6 Lakhs and might go up to Rs 10 Lakhs. So, the given price suggests that it will compete with Mahindra TUV 300 and Maruti Vitara Brezza. Vitara Brezza recently got a facelift version featuring a new AMT gearbox. On the other hand, TUV 300 is getting a 7-seater version by the name of ‘TUV 300 Plus’ and various times it has been spied.
Also, there have been certain rumours suggesting that Kwid might get a 7-seater variant on its extended platform. It will be similar to Datsun GO+ and will compete against it. The 7-seater variant is expected to launch by 2019, following which the compact SUV might launch by year-end 2019 or early 2020.
