In an interesting development, the 2024 Renault Kiger facelift has been seen undergoing road tests. This is the first-ever sighting of the upcoming mid-life facelift. With compact SUVs being all the rage, this Rs 6 lakh SUV is an important part of the carmaker’s local portfolio. That said, its sales performance, especially in comparison to its rivals, has been rather lacklustrous. It’s noteworthy that the mid-life update will launch this year. Today, I have some exclusive information and spy images of the new SUV.
Changes and Improvements
As is the norm with such mid-life updates, the upcoming facelift will receive a new set of soft parts. Going by the spy media, the SUV will have a revised front-end that will feature a new bumper and grille. Interestingly, the test mule doesn’t feature camouflage in any other area. Even the rims remain unchanged, though the final version could launch with a new set of wheels.
Our source reveals the updates won’t be merely skin-deep. The 2024 Renault Kiger facelift will benefit from better NVH control. A notable change to the interior will be the replacement of lift-to-unlock door locks with the conventional, more modern mechanism positioned next to the inside door handle. New features will likely include a wireless phone charger and a larger infotainment. However, there won’t be many new features so as to not disturb the VFM quotient of this Rs 6 lakh SUV. Hence, a sunroof will continue to be conspicuous by its absence.
2024 Renault Kiger Facelift Launch Date, Price and Specifications
As aforementioned, the facelift of this Rs 6 lakh SUV will launch later this year. The introduction of the updates will likely result in a small increment in the price. Currently, the sub-4-metre offering is available from Rs 6 – 11.23 Lakh (ex-showroom). We expect the new version to cost up to Rs 50,000 more.
The specifications will stay the same. So, the KIger will continue to be available with a 1.0-litre naturally-aspirated and a 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. The NA motor produces a maximum of 71 bhp and 96 Nm of power and torque. The motor is available with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. The turbo engine produces a maximum power of 99 bhp. It offers 152 Nm of torque with a manual transmission and 160 Nm with the CVT.
Our View
While hot-sellers like the Maruti Brezza and Tata Nexon start at over Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom), the Kiger costs significantly lesser. This makes it one of the most affordable B-SUVs around. In fact, it even makes models like the Tata Punch and Maruti Fronx look costly in spite of belonging to a lower segment. That said, let’s see what effect the facelift has on the sales performance of this Rs 6 lakh SUV.
