Ford has been riding its way to glory with the EcoSport and the Renault Duster is the car that has been feeling the heat of it. Renault is struggling because of the EcoSport and as a result, the Duster registered its least sales in the month of July 2013 since its launch as July was the month in which the EcoSport had started hitting the Indian roads in full force. Renault has struck back with a new variant of the Duster. The company has introduced a new Renault Duster RxZ Plus diesel variant which comes with more legroom in the second row than the rest of the variants. The company has not stated if a similar variant will come for the petrol motor propelled Duster as well.
The company has liberated more legroom by removing the rear AC vents. It is actually bog similar to the RxZ Option Pack but only the AC vents in the second row take a departure. It will be slotted between the RXZ 110 and the RXZ 110 Option Pack. It has been launched for a price of Rs 12.13 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The company states that it has introduced this variant after taking feedback from the existing customers.
The car has a 1461cc diesel motor under the hood that gives out a maximum power output of 108 BHP and a peak torque of 248 NM. This engine gets mated to a 6 speed manual transmission. Talking about the creature comforts, the car gets touch screen infotainment system which teams up with satellite navigation. It gets leather upholstery, alloy wheels and electric mirrors as well. The safety package includes ABS, two airbags and parking sensors.
The Duster comes with a rear AC vent which usually eats up into the rear legroom. What this does is that it makes difficult to accommodate 5 people and only 4 can sit in the car comfortable. Liberation of more legroom will surely allow 5 people to get accommodated in the car easily. The Duster’s AC unit is quite a powerful one and does a good job at keeping the cabin temperature on the lower side so the AC vents which now make way for more legroom won’t really be missed.
