Renault India has finally launched the much awaited Renault Duster in India after long wait. There is a lot of enthusiasm among Indian car buyers for SUVs and this new segment of compact SUVs in affordable price segment (close to sedan pricing) is going to challenge the dominance of Sedans when it comes to mid-size cars segment in India. Young and aspirational buyers from India are looking forward to this segment for quite sometime. Duster not only creates a new segment, but also it brings a huge opportunity for Renault in India to grow its sales volumes multifold. With its lucrative pricing, great handling and attractive styling, Duster does seem to be a very good value for money option for Indian buyers.
Renault Duster is 30 to 40% lighter in kerb weight when compared to the typical SUVs like Scorpio and Safari and also lower in height. While less weight makes it more agile and much more fuel efficient, lower height and better aerodynamics make it more stable and pliant on roads. Interestingly, Renault Duster comes in many variants which is a complex combination of trim levels and Engine options. Let me try to simplify it for you by making a table below:
The Petrol variant of the Renault Duster comes in only two trim levels, RXE and RXL while the Diesel variant comes in RXE, RXL and RXZ. While the RXE Diesel comes only with the 85 PS Diesel Engine, the RXZ Model comes with only 110 PS Diesel Engine. The mid diesel variant Duster RXL comes in both 85 PS and 110 PS Engine options which makes the total number of variants as 8 across 3 trim levels and 3 engine options including two diesel engines and one petrol engine, also there are option packs available on RXL and RXZ.
1.6 Litre Petrol Engine Specifications
The petrol engine of the Renault Duster which comes in RXE and RXL variants is a 1.6 Litre MPFI Petrol engine with 101 BHP of peak power at 5850 RPM and 145 Nm of torque at 3750 RPM. It is coupled to a 5 speed manual transmission and delivers a mileage of 13.24 KMPL.
1.5 Litre 85 PS Diesel Engine Specifications
The 85 P Diesel engine of Renault Duster which comes in RXE and RXL variants is a 1.5 Litre CRDI Diesel engine with peak power of 84 BHP @ 3750 RPM and peak torque of 200 Nm @1900 RPM. It is coupled to a 5 speed manual transmission gearbox which delivers a a mileage of 20.46 KMPL.
1.5 Litre 110 PS Diesel Engine Specifications

- Renault has an installed capacity of producing 2 lakh units of car annually

- 4×4 version of Renault Duster is not planned for India as of now, but the official did not deny any possibility of future launch
