Renault India has launched its one of the most anticipated car, the Renault Duster compact SUV in India on 4th July 2012 at a starting price of Rs. 7.19 Lakhs. As anticipated even before launch, Duster created a lot of Buzz and excitement in Indian automobile markets and has received over 6000 bookings in just 5 days after its official launch. There are lot of buyers enquiring about the duster and aspiring to buy one, but one issue which is holding back many potential buyers was the seating capacity of just 5 adults. The reason is that many nearly prices utility vehicles like Mahindra Scorpio, Xylo, Ertiga, Safari all comes with 7 seats options by compromising on the boot or luggage space in these vehicles. But the Duster has been launched with a 5 seats options and no options to use the boot space for luggage as it is sold in similar way in international markets. But since Indian buyers are more demanding in terms of seating capacity at this price and they get this option in other utility vehicles, it was holding back some of the buyers from opting for the Duster.
Renault understood this customer sentiment and we really appreciate their prompt decision to solve this problem by offering optional 2 jump seats behind the second row as accessory. Those buyers for whom less than 7 seats is a deal breaker, they can pay extra for the accessory and get their Renault Duster to be a 7 seater utility vehicle. The only drawback of this is that there will be little to no luggage space left while the jump seats are in use, but so is the case with almost all utility vehicles in this price segment, so Renault India does not need to worry much about the reduced boot.
Duster anyways has huge boot space with almost completely flat floor and because of the folding type jump seats, the boot can be used to nearly full capacity when the car is seating 5 or less adults. This flexibility will help Renault India increase Duster sales much better as most buyers in India do compared similarly priced cars and their features before they finalize their purchase decision. This additional seating comes in very handy for a short trip with a large family where the luggage space needs are minimal and passengers count is between 5 to 7.
