While Renault has seen early success with the Duster SUV, it has failed to see the same with the Captur, which might not see a future in India.
Renault India has confirmed that it will be discontinuing diesel cars in India, starting April 2020. They have stated the same reason that Maruti has stated – increase in the prices of the diesel variants.
In a fresh report from ET Auto, Renault has said that there is no future for the Captur SUV and they might not launch its next-generation. Meanwhile, Renault has confirmed that next-generation Duster is confirmed for India.
Renault states that Captur is popular in the European markets, but has failed to make a mark in India. The sales report for the past many months shows that the SUV barely manages to record more than 100 sales a month.

The Captur is placed above the Duster in terms of pricing and is also a bit bigger than the latter. Captur competes with the likes of Maruti S-Cross, Nissan Kicks and Hyundai Creta. But if you widen the range a bit, you can also opt for Kia Seltos and MG Hector.
So, as we see, the competition of Captur is pretty tough, with debutants like Seltos and Hector offering many premium-class features. In the comparison of them, the Captur feels a bit outdated now.
With the comment from Renault, it could mean two things – either the Captur with a mild facelift and a petrol engine will be continued or it could be phased out next year.
