A rendering specialist has resurrected the Yamaha Gladiator in a fully-faired format that looks sportier than even the Yamaha R15 V4
The Yamaha Gladiator used to be a 125cc motorcycle that was launched back in 2006 and was termed as the successor of the Fazer. The Gladiator was a well-sorted motorcycle that could only get a lukewarm response from the buyers but did establish itself as one of the most well-rounded motorcycles in its segment. Of course, the low demand meant that it couldn’t stay on sale for long and not many remember this product anymore. Even those who do, they perceive it as a great executive commuter with nice ride, high refinement and a reasonable fuel efficiency.
Well, abin_designs_511 on Instagram has been regularly featured on our pages and this time around, the artist has made news for giving the Yamaha Gladiator a new lease in life, albeit, virtually. In spite of the transformation being strictly virtual, we’re mighty impressed with the sporty look of the motorcycle while still retaining some of the elements of the original executive commuter. And in the process, the concept you see above has ended up looking sportier than even the Yamaha R15. A lot of this is actually due to the full-front fairing that seems to carry sleek headlamps and a high-set windscreen to protect the rider from wind blasts. Even the fuel tank and the side panel has been changed but a closer look at the exhaust end can will reveal similarities with the one on the original motorcycle.
Being a virtual concept, there’s no information on the specifications. The original Gladiator featured a 123.7cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that came mated to a 5-speed transmission. The motor used to output a maximum power of 10.7 PS and a peak torque of 10.4 Nm. The motorcycle featured conventional front forks and twin springs at the rear. The concept, however, gets USDs upfront and a rear monoshock.
Clearly, the Yamaha Gladiator concept seen here won’t make it to the production. Yamaha Motor India has already tapped the entry-level supersports segment with the R15, which has always been a capable track tool. But this concept we have with us today does make us yearn fully-faired sporty 125cc motorcycle from Yamaha.
