The upcoming coupe SUV has lost the camouflage even though the official launch is around 10 days away.
The Citroen Basalt coupe SUV has been spotted testing on public roads for quite some time now. However, this time around, the red colour theme is evident since the vehicle is not wearing any camouflage. Even though it is quite rare to see a new car without the covering prior to the launch, the French carmaker seems to be adopting a different strategy. I have been reporting about the Basalt on the road and leaked videos for a long time now. The coupe SUV has given up on camouflage a while ago. Here are the details of this latest spotting.
Red Citroen Basalt Spied Testing
This latest post comes from Raftaar 7811 on YouTube. It captures the red coupe SUV plying on the road amidst heavy traffic. Someone driving in the adjacent lane has captured the visuals of the Basalt from the side. The squarish wheel arches become evident along with the sloping roofline which neatly integrates into the bootlid. There is also a shark fin antenna and a rugged rear bumper with a sturdy skid plate. This accentuates the sporty appearance and demeanour of the coupe SUV. Also, the wrap-around taillamp looks decent and unique.
In terms of the specifications, the Citroen Basalt will most likely borrow powertrains from the C3 Aircross. This means a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder turbo petrol engine which is good for 110 PS and 205 Nm of peak power and torque. The transmission duties will be performed by either a 6-speed manual or an automatic gearbox. With the Basalt, the French carmaker aims to popularize the coupe SUV body type in the Indian market. Note that the launch is slated for August 2.
Our View
The coupe silhouette was always reserved for the ultra-premium and high-end cars in the past. But carmakers like Citroen, Mahindra and Tata Motors are trying to bring it to the masses to test how well they receive these. In fact, the Citroen Basalt launch will soon be followed by the Tata CURVV launch on August 7. Going forward, even Mahindra will bring its EVs in the form of coupe SUVs. Therefore, the Indian market will be flooded with such SUVs in the future.
